Chancellor’s Teaching Award Winners

Five University of Pittsburgh faculty members have received this year’s Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Awards. The winners, who are featured in articles inside this issue, are Donald Egolf, Communication; Bruce Goldstein, Psychology; James Johnston, School of Medicine; Gordon Mitchell, Communication; and Lu-In Wang, School of Law.  More detailed information about the teaching approaches  is contained in articles inside this issue based on interviews with each award winner.

Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Awards have been given annually since 1984.  (Previous winners are listed on Page 8.)  Candidates can be nominated by students, faculty colleagues, department chairs, or deans.  Selected by a committee of students and faculty, award winners receive $2,000 in cash and a $3,000 grant to be used to support teaching activities.  They are honored at an annual Honors Convocation and have their names inscribed on a permanent plaque in the William Pitt Union.  The awards are funded by an endowment from unrestricted 1980 Capital Campaign funds.
