Professional Development Opportunities for Faculty
Professional development for faculty at the University of Pittsburgh extends throughout the academic year. The following are examples of activities and services available to Pitt faculty.
School and Individual Assistance
The Center for Instructional Development & Distance Education (CIDDE) assists departments and schools to design faculty workshops on teaching-related topics such as collaborative learning, syllabus design, service-learning, and problem-based learning. CIDDE also provides individual design and technical assistance for small and large course development initiatives. Instructional designers can help you to design a new course or revise an existing one, assist with implementing new teaching methods or technologies, analyze and resolve problems encountered in teaching, and develop instructional grant proposals.
Course Development using Blackboard
Blackboard is course management software that enables faculty to create and manage Web pages for their courses. The easy-to-use software provides access to instructor’s course materials, online quizzes, feedback to students, grading tools, as well as communication options and group work tools. Training is provided throughout the year.
Office of Research
The Office of Research offers ongoing faculty support and occasional workshops. This office administers all University research and related activities involving extramural sponsorship. It serves as both a center of advocacy for research and related activities, and as a facilitator of the research environment. Functional areas of the Office include information services, project and proposal development assistance, and grant and contract administration for pre-award and selected post-award tasks.
