At a time when the whole nation grieves the events of September 11, 2001, normal
activities take on new meaning. Suddenly, a University pep rally is more than a
pep rally; it is a time of deep reflection and renewed dedication to the
fundamental principals we share. During the Bonfire & Pep Rally on September 26,
2001, preceding the Pitt vs. Miami football game, the Pitt Program Council
focused our attention on more than the traditional school spirit. They focused
our attention on the spirit that unites us as a country.
At the request of Pitt Program Council, CIDDE’s Video Production staff helped
produce a video to accompany the Ray Charles rendition of “America The
Beautiful ” (Note: This is a 7.23MB video file,
higher speed connections are preferred.)
In addition, a CIDDE photographer conceived of the original idea and CIDDE
graphic artists designed a graphic - Pitt Remembers 9/11/01- with help and
approval from University Relations, Governmental Relations, and the Office of
the Chancellor. This was not a job to any of these participants, but rather an
idea born of the personal need to make a collective statement.
CIDDE photographers were there to capture Pitt’s silent vigil for the victims of
the terrible September tragedies, as well as for the signing of letters of
support for the Fire, Police and Emergency personnel of New York.
All of us take this moment to stand united with our brothers and sisters not
only at Pitt but also across America - Pitt Remembers 9/11/01. |
