The Teaching Center
The University Center for Teaching and Learning is committed to supporting Pitt students by enriching the experience and knowledge of faculty and TAs with interactive workshops, one-on-one consultations, and other programming that underscores the value of diversity, equity and inclusion in teaching, across all content areas. As reflected in the strategic plan, diversity is a critical component of Pitt’s continued success. The Teaching Center’s role is to help faculty make the best choices for building inclusive learning environments that meet the needs of all students, regardless of their identity, background, ability, and any other factors. The University Center for Teaching and Learning aims to work with faculty to construct syllabi, learning activities, assessments, and educational materials that will provide the space for everyone to excel.
The Center for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Curriculum
To equip faculty with research-based resources to develop curricula that infuses diversity, equity and inclusion perspectives to create dynamic, relevant and culturally responsive pedagogy.
The curriculum is the heart of the teaching and learning process. Inclusive teaching is essential for preparing faculty with tools to engage an increasingly diverse student demographic. The current social justice concerns and racial climate provides curricula opportunities for faculty to incorporate timely content and discussions in a welcoming environment.
The Center for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Curriculum (CDEIC) is intentional about the resources that are shared with faculty to fulfill the University’s goal to promote a “community that is vibrant in voice, identity and experience.” The CDEIC provides:
- relevant workshops and institutes that incorporate diverse perspectives
- current research-based resources that include equity and inclusion approaches
- opportunities to conduct research and presentations
- ways to build community via collaboration and reflection
