Classroom Services is Pitt’s central resource for instructional technology. We offer a variety of services to the University community, which include delivering technology to classrooms, lecture video recording, long-term equipment loans, and more.

Service Options

Will Call/Term Loan Technology Request

Classroom Services will arrange for your requested technology to be delivered to, and set up in, your classroom before your class begins. Our operator will ensure that the equipment is functioning to your expectations, and will return following class to pick up the equipment. Note that this service may be limited depending on staff availability and priority of request.

Notes about this service:

  • Upon submission of your request, you will receive an automated e-mail response. This response does not guarantee service. Classroom Services will continue to assign operators up to 24 hours before the requested date of your event in order to provide the most comprehensive coverage possible.
  • Scheduling is prioritized based on factors such as date and complexity of request, availability of staff, and physical disabilities, among others.
  • “Confirmations of staff availability” are delivered via Pitt email. If you receive a “No Staff Available” notice, Classroom Services offers several other options to ensure that you will have the necessary technology for your class. We are willing to work with you. Please contact us to decide which alternative option best suits your needs.

Office Technology Delivery

If an operator is not available to deliver technology to your class, or if you would prefer to have access to it before your class begins, you may request delivery to your campus office instead. These deliveries include any technology normally available through our lending service.

Notes about this service:

  • Please submit your request at least three service days before your event. Upon submission of your request, you will receive an automated e-mail response. This response does not guarantee service.
  • If you are requesting an Office Delivery due to having received a “No Staff Available” notice for a pending Classroom Delivery, please be as specific as possible about the details of your request in the notes field of the order form; this will assist us in best addressing your needs. Include the order number from your “Receipt of Request” email, if possible.
  • Please request deliveries at least one business day prior to your class or event. We guarantee delivery to any departmental offices on Pitt’s Oakland campus by 5 p.m. on the date requested. A faculty/staff signature is required for delivery. Classroom Services will pick up the equipment from the same office by 5 p.m. on the specified pickup date.
  • Office Deliveries are also available for long-term loans.

Classroom Recording Services

We offer video recording services in campus classrooms and other spaces. Recordings can be hosted online and made public or password restricted, depending on your needs. Please be as specific as possible when submitting the order form so that we can best assess how to fulfill your request. Patrons are encouraged to manage their own Blackboard content when appropriate.

Basic lecture capture:

An operator will be assigned to video record your class with a basic camera and microphone package. This service is appropriate for traditional lectures, student speeches and presentations. Screen capture and other media are not recorded with this service.

  • Patrons are encouraged to provide their own recordable media in the form of a reusable 8GB SD Card. If you would like our operator to provide a card, please provide a departmental account number to which the cost of the provided card may be charged. Any recording exceeding three hours requires multiple cards or a larger capacity card.
  • Recordings are available on demand upon request. Please allow three business days after the event has taken place for availability.

Advanced lecture capture:

If your event requires a more complex recording, Classroom Services has a number of options that may accommodate your needs. These options include but are not limited to:

  • Video and screen capture.
  • Live broadcast capabilities (limited availability). More information available upon request.
  • Flipped lectures.
  • Lecture series recording and hosting.

Teaching Assistant (TA) development recording:

Classroom Services provides basic lecture capture services for T.A. development.

Video Conferencing & Webcasting

CIDDE offers multiple levels of video conferencing and webcasting. Charges apply to this service.

Please be as specific as possible when submitting the order form so that we can best assess how to fulfill your request. Please submit your request at least two weeks before your event.

Web-Based Video Conferencing:

This mobile service enables you to connect from any location on campus with a reliable internet connection. CIDDE uses tools such as Microsoft Lync, GoToMeeting, Skype, BlueJeans, and others to connect any number of users across multiple locations.

Standards-Based Video Conferencing:

Standards based video conferencing features high definition video, professionally balanced audio, and requires no additional equipment from the customer. However, this service is available only in one of CIDDE’s video conferencing rooms. Please note that seating and availability are limited. Since not all video conferencing systems are compatible, involved parties must coordinate with CIDDE prior to the event to ensure a connection can be made.
